The 2019/20 season kicked off mid-August with Barcelona vs. Athletic Bilbao, with Athletic Bilbao beating them 1-0. It might seem like it’s a bit early to predict the winner of the 2019/20 season, but there are already some clear standouts in the league.
When contemplating possible winners of the 2019/20 season, it’s important to gather insights, stats, and data on current La Liga standings from as many sources as possible. This is even more relevant if you plan on building your own fantasy soccer team. For example, it can be very beneficial to have a look at what online prediction sites (as Oddscheckers shows) expect from your favourite coaches, players, and teams.
FiveThirtyEight currently has the top five teams as follows: Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, Sevilla, and Athletic Bilbao. They estimate that Barcelona has a 51 per cent chance of winning. Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid have a 20 per cent chance and a 15 per cent chance of winning, respectively.

2019/20 Winner Prediction
Besides being the favourite this season, Barcelona won the 2018/19 season and has won 26 La Liga championships to date. Their squad is among the best in the league. This year, they added Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie de Jong, two of the strongest players in the league.
Still, some experts are predicting Atlético Madrid to win this year because of their strong start to the season, despite losing key players (like Griezmann to Barcelona). They also added Joao Felix this year, who has been a particularly strong addition to the team.
Second and Third Place
Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid are predicted to come in second and third place, after Barcelona. However, Real Madrid is not off to a great start, and as mentioned, Atlético Madrid could surprise us with a win, beating Barcelona.
Fourth Place and Beyond
Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao both have a shot at fourth place with their current standings in the league. Additionally, Valencia is expected to finish in either fourth or fifth place. Their squad consistently performs well, even if they are not the best in the league. They also offer some surprises and have won La Liga a total of 6 times, last winning in 2003/04. And in May, they beat Barcelona 2–1 in the Copa Del Rey Final, showing they can take on the best in the league.
