Athletic v Girona – Betting Preview

Athletic Summary

Athletic Club suffered what they hope proves to be a mini setback at the Wanda Metropolitano last weekend, with a deserved 1-0 defeat to Atletico.

They had won their two previous games and remain in the fight for top six, so won’t let that narrow defeat lose their momentum or damage confidence too much.

The Basques had earned back-to-back wins with the 4-1 win at home to Cadiz being followed up by a smash-and-grab victory down in Valencia. They will be set on a 3 points against Girona at home, any anything less is a setback.

The players that featured in the 1-0 loss to Atletico last weekend were given the day off to rest on Tuesday and returned Wednesday afternoon with good physical condition and no serious knocks.

That said, the inform Sancet is a very minor worry, but it was precautionary that he did not complete the session.

Athletic have a near fully fit squad barring perhaps Íñigo Martínez. The Centre back has a good chance to return this weekend but may not be match sharp, so unlikely to begin.

There is one absence assured with Vivian suspended after his yellow card collected in Madrid last weekend.

Capa and Ander Herrera remain out long term.

Girona Summary

The Catalan club comes into the game of a fantastic comeback performance and win against Almeria who they battered 6-2 last Friday evening.

Almeria were as bad as Girona were good in that one-sided contest. And so on the back of a very disappointing showing and loss in Cadiz in the previous game, the fans are keen to see the real Girona reveal its face.

And they will be pleased if they can come away from Basque country with a draw here, anything less is a setback.

Girona have little relegation worries sitting 10th, but not with enough distance in points to be carefree.

Girona’s overall mood and confidence are decent, and the season is exceeding all expectations.

Michel Sánchez has positive team news for the game with Almeria, with their towering centre-back David Lopez having recovered from a knock which kept him out of the early week training.

The fringe men Ibrahima Kebe and Couto remains out. they are joined on the side-lines by Yangel Herrera and Valery Fernández.

Betting Analysis

Looking at the 1×2 market first where Athletic is favourite to win @ 1.69. The draw is @ 3.75 and the Girona win is @ 4.25.

Moving onto the Asian handicap betting for this contest. The home side Athletic give away a +0.75 start @ 1.89. Girona were shocking in their last away trip in a poor Cadiz outfit, so no faith in them here despite the +0.75 start @ 1.97. Easy pass as I would not even consider betting the Basques to win by two goals.

Looking at The Under/Over goal betting last of all. The line has dropped from 2.5 down to 2.25, indicating punters are not expecting a game with lots of goals. Over 2.25 is @ 1.80. Under is @ 2.04. Another easy pass.
