Girona v Atletico Madrid – Betting Preview

Girona Summary

Girona suffered a big setback in Getafe last weekend and because of that and results over the weekend, there is now some pressure on them to pick up points and avoid being dragged into a relegation battle.

They had gone to Getafe in great mood on the back of two fantastic consecutive wins.

The spirit and confidence remains high but they will be keen to avoid a loss here and try to put further ground between them and Getafe, 4 points below them in 18th place.

Girona may not have deep relegation fears right now sitting 12th place.

However, the boss does not want to be in a situation where they can be dragged any closer to the drop zone. Indeed, a win here could send them as high as 9th place in the table.

Michel Sánchez has no new doubt or important absences for the game in Atletico Madrid.

The fringe men Ibrahima Kebe and Couto remains out along with Yangel Herrera. This harms the depth and subs bench as much as anything.

Atletico Madrid Summary

Atletico sit in a privileged position of 3rd place and with this game in hand of those around them, all of whom dropped points over the weekend.

The mood in the camp is superb after they hammered Sevilla 6-1 last weekend in their best performance of the season.

The results of those contesting 3rd and to a lesser extend 4th spot, all failed to win their respective matches.

It was particularly positive for Atletico that Real Sociedad continued their decline in form, drawing in Mallorca. The Basques however, remain level on points with them and so there is still work to do to secure their place in the standings.

Simeone’s side therefore know a win sees them gain a further grip on third position of La Liga 2022/23.

Going out of all European competition was a blow but the football and confidence now is arguably greater than at any stage of this difficult season.

Looking now at team news for a potentially tricky game against Girona, which brings further positive news out of the weekend events.

Simeone has no regular men missing as Molina returns from a suspended and De Paul is recovered from his injury, training normally on Saturday.

Of the two men returning, only Molina looks set to return to the side which played Sevilla off the park last time out.

Betting Analysis

Looking at the 1×2 market first.  Atletico is the favourite to win  @ 2.05. Girona are strong at home and will give every good team a game, they could look value @ 4.1 if they play their best level. The draw is @ 3.50.

Moving onto the Asian handicap betting for this contest. Atletico Madrid give away  a -0.50 start @ 2.04. Girona have the draw onside @ 1.83.

Girona seem undervalued in the market but Atletico Madrid are ion sparking form and so it’s a difficult one to go with the value in this instance.

Looking at The Under/Over goal line last of all, where over 2.25 looks a promising option @ 1.95. Atletico’s image change to being an entertaining and expansive side worked last weekend more than ever before.

Girona always play vertically when at home so fairly easy to go with the over here. I would consider even taking the 2.5 @ 2.26.
