Rayo Vallecano v Girona – Betting Preview

Rayo Vallecano Summary

Rayo Vallecano has suffered a setback in the last few weeks and dropped out of the top six, currently sitting in 7th in La Liga 2022/23.

The 3-0 loss to Celta Vigo was a little harsh on them, but more evidence perhaps of a team that was flattered to be as high as they were.

Furthermore, it is such a small and modest club, many within it don’t relish the prospect of Europa league or UEFA conference league football, which could damage the league form next season and endanger their top flight status.

The overall mood and confidence are good despite the drop off in form, and they are still  enjoying a successful season.

Looking now at team news for this encounter against Girona, which is mainly positive.

Iraola has one absence with Iván Balliu picking up a yellow card suspension for this match.

It isn’t clear whether or not Esteban Saveljich will make the squad but either way, he is not expected to begin the match.

Mario Hernández slots into the right back position where the Balliu ban affects their XI.

In attack, Raúl de Tomás and Camello could fight out the number nine role in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

De Tomas is rated the more effective and dangerous player. Even if Camello begins, De Tomas may end up moving to the number ten role or on either flank.

Girona Summary

Girona has suffered back-to-back defeats coming into this game in Vallecas, with the need to at least avoid a loss as their target.

The big setback in Getafe (L3-2) two Rounds ago was followed up by a very flat showing and deserved defeat to Atletico (L1-0) on Monday evening.

With those consecutive losses and positive results of sides beneath them, Girona is becoming increasingly concerned about the fear of relegation.

Before the latest round has begun, they are just four points ahead of the 18th-placed side Getafe.

They had gone to Getafe in a great mood on the back of two fantastic consecutive wins, so at this stage, the boss Michel is just asking for consistency in their remaining games.

The spirit and confidence remain positive, and they will believe they can win against Rayo who is a team dropping down the table.

Looking at team news now, where Michel Sánchez has a few injury concerns racking up.

One new important absence for the trip to Vallecas is creative midfielder, Aleix García. He is expected to miss out on up to six weeks which is a big blow for the club.

Yan Couto, Ibrahima Kebe, and Yangel Herrera are also out along with Callens, but the latter has a minor chance to regain fitness.

Midfield rock Oriol Romeu is another player carrying a knock but he should be cleared to begin.

In more positive and concrete injury news, playmaker Borja García is fully recovered and starts.
