Almeria 1-1 Atletico Madrid – Betting Review

Match Summary

Atlético Madrid’s poor form continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by a determined Almería side fighting relegation.

The visitor began with a fine go-ahead goal but they failed to build momentum and faded, allowing the hard-working host back into the game before the break.

At 1-1, Atletico had decent chances but most of their opportunities came from set pieces. It is fair to say that Almeria needed to thank their keeper Fernando for a couple of big saves, but there was also a sense that Atleti lacked quality when it mattered and lost control of the game despite a lovely opening goal early on.

Following a scrappy start, Atlético produced a moment of quality to open the scoring in the 18th minute. Griezmann dummied a Kondogbia pass to allow Ángel Correa the first goal. He coolly slid the ball under Fernando Martínez.

A committed Almeria reacted well which was important and kept their fans right behind them. The host missed a good chance when Sergio Akieme was unable to keep his shot on target.

Almeria keeper Fernando reacted superbly to deny Mario Hermoso from Griezmann’s corner.

The visitors were made to rue a couple of chances missed from set pieces when Almeria drew level before halftime. Lucas Robertone’s delivery was met by El Bilal Toure who headed beyond a helpless Jan Oblak.

In the second half, the ever-dangerous Griezmann had a couple of chances to restore Atléti’s lead, but on both occasions, he failed to beat Fernando who was the hero for the host on the day.

Diego Simeone’s side pushed hard and took risks to try to find a winner, with Morata twice spurning opportunities in quick succession.

The match ended with even more frustration for Atletico when Sergio Reguilon, already disliked by the fans, saw a late red card. Fair score 1-2.

Betting Analysis

Looking at the 1×2 market first where the favourite for this game Atletico failed to deliver. The game ended all square and the draw won @ 3.70.

Moving onto the Asian handicap market for this contest. As Predicted in our preview, Atletico Madrid struggled to win this and the -0.75 handicap always looked too much for them based on negative team news. Almeria +0.75 needed their keeper a couple of times, but always looked value at this handicap @ 1.98.

Looking at The Under/Over market last of all that was set at 2.5, a line which was spot on as it could have gone either way. The Over looked promising with two goals before the halftime break, but Under was the eventual winner @ 1.89.
