Betting Analysis

Looking at the 1×2 market first. The favourite for this game Athletic Club was unable to get the goal needed to win @ 1.68. However, based on domination and how little Osasuna showed threat, punters of the ‘1’ should not feel disappointed as the selection looked right.  Ultimately however, the draw paid out @ 3.65 as the winning bet in this section.

Moving onto the Asian handicap market for this contest. Athletic dominated enough of the match to merit the -0.75 start they gave to Osasuna. However, in the end they failed to score and so Osasuna +0.75 @ 1.970 was a winning bet. It was predicted the visitor would keep it close by defending well and trying not to conceded which they did well,  meaning they never changed their defensive game plan as it remained 0-0.

Looking at The Under/Over market last of all.  As outlined in our preview, this is a hostile game in this region of Northern Spain and never ideal for Over backers. It was as expected, a physical and high-intensity affair. Under @ 1.95 was the winner.

Match Summary

Athletic Bilbao could not turn pressure or chances into a win during a tightly contested match in the Basque country.  Osasuna came with a defensive plan and held on bravely, though needed some fortune to hold onto a point.

The host had more of the play and showed all the ambition but failed to convert that into a goal and so missed the opportunity to move into the top four in La Liga as the Leones drew 0-0 with Osasuna at San Mamés.

With challenging games against Real Sociedad and Real Madrid ahead, Los Leones knew the importance of a win against their modest neighbours

Gorka Guruzeta should have done better from the edge of the area early on, which he mishit and fired wide before Oscar de Marcos shot straight at Aitor Fernández.

The Osasuna stopper then did well to cut out de Marcos’ cross from the byline, when a goal looked probable.

Valverde’s side had two further opportunities to take the lead before the break. The speedy Nico Williams saw his effort curl narrowly wide of the left post before Guruzeta had a volley denied by a fine diving save from Fernández, arguably man of the match for Osasuna in the end.

Athletic Bilbao continued showing initiative throughout the second half. The home fans thought they had finally gone ahead when Guruzeta rolled the ball in from Williams’ squared pass, however, the linesman’s flag went up for offside.

It was one-way traffic until the end, but Athletic was unable to find the winning goal against a stubborn Osasuna., a fair score is 1-0.
