Cadiz 1-1 Elche – Betting Review

Match Summary

Cadiz led very early in the game and looked set to grab a vital win. However, they didn’t take their big chances when they came, particularly in the first period.

In the second half, Elche hung around and Cadiz, less dangerous than the first 45 minutes, failed to do enough to see off a spirited visitor. Elche rallied late and earned a point with an equaliser on 77 minutes, crushing the mood in the stadium.

Elche is still without a victory in La Liga this season and although better than nothing, ideally they needed a win in this pivotal clash against fellow relegation candidates Cádiz.

The hosts had the first proper chance of the evening when Choco Lozano just failed to get onto a whipped-in cross from the wing.

At the other end, Carmona saw his cross-shot tipped over by Jeremías Ledesma.

Ocampo punished the visitors for a bad clearance from a corner on 7 minutes, smashing the ball beyond keeper Édgar Badía for 1-0.

Cádiz could have doubled their advantage twice in quick succession. First,  Lozano fired wastefully off target, and then Iza Carcelén’s wicked volley crashed off Badía’s right-hand post.

Lucky to only be one down, Elche sprang into life as Gerard Gumbau’s powerful drive was beaten away by Ledesma before Milla and Lucas Boyé struck the woodwork.

Badía was then tested again before the break, palming Fernández’s effort out.

Machin made attacking subs for the second half but his team were struggling to apply any real pressure or work chances of quality.

Elche relied on long shots for all their possession, but out of nothing Ponce soon levelled the contest unexpectedly. It was a bullet header from fellow substitute Blanco’s pinpoint cross.

Negredo almost diverted in a dramatic winner during a frantic ending as both goalkeepers had to be alert, but Elche held on for a draw which was not merited. Fair score 3-1.

Betting Analysis

Looking at the 1×2 market first, the favourite for this game was Cadiz @ 1.95 but they failed to convert chances to kill off the opponent. Elche stole a draw in this and the result paid out @ 3.40.

Moving onto the Asian handicap market for this contest. Undeserved as noted above, but it was the Elche +0.5 backers that won here @ 1.92.

Looking at The Under/Over market last of all which was set at 2.25. As outlined in the preview, this line was seen as being fairly high considering these are two struggling goal-shy sides. It did finish Under @ 1.86 but in truth, had chances for Cadiz been taken, the match should have seen more goals. All things considered, with hindsight the market was about right on this line.
