Celta Vigo 0-1 Atletico Madrid – Betting Review

Betting Analysis

Looking at the 1×2 market first. The slight favourite for this game was Atletico Madrid and they won @ 2.55.

Moving onto the Asian handicap betting for this contest. Atletico were fortunate to win, a draw would have been the best they merited. Punters who sided with Atletico -0.25 @ 1.88 would have been prepared for a full loss after the red card to Savic on 70 minutes but somehow, they held on and they grabbed a late win.

Looking at The Under/Over goal betting which I thought there was an angle on overs with the line being so low at 2. The game took a while to get going but merited at least two goals, only great keeping by Oblak and the crossbar preventing the home side netting at least once. In the end, the under won @2.03.

Match Summary

Ten-man Atletico Madrid won the game 0-1 with a late goal from Memphis Depay but their man of the match was Jan Oblak, who kept them level and in a chance to get the three vital points.

Celta Vigo were made to rue missed chances in the 2nd period. They had more of the play and the best opportunities, but a gritty Atletico held a clean sheet through the time moments and won it in the final minute. Fair scores 2-1 and 1-1.

Memphis Depay struck in the 89th minute with his first goal for Atletico. It was a goal totally against the run of play, since the moment Savic saw red on 70 minutes, Celta dominated but failed to convert chances.

Both teams came into this contest settled and confident, but there was only a couple of chances, Atletico just edging the best moments in an even half.

Atletico didn’t sit back but were more organised without the ball and for almost an hour, were able to keep their hosts at bay.

Diego Simeone’s side however had less control in the second half, but going forward they also showed more threat as the game opened up.

Llorente squared to Álvaro Morata but the striker had his shot saved low down to his left by Iván Villar.

It should have been 1-0 to Vigo around the hour when Iago Aspas’ couldn’t beat Oblak on a one-on-one situation.  Oblak was able to recover the parried shot and get back just in time to prevent the ball crossing the line.

The game opened up even more when Savic saw red for a professional foul, preventing a one-on-one with Oblak, who had plenty of work to do after the sending off.

From the resulting free kick, Aspas hit the crossbar, leading to constant home side pressure.

Atletico were very lucky to not be behind but then Simeone’s men defied the odds and stole it in the 89th minute. Depay hooked the ball home from close range to complete something of a smash and grab win.
