Girona 0-1 Atletico Madrid – Betting Review

Betting Analysis

Looking at the 1×2 market first.  Atletico was the favourite to win  @ 2.05 and although the goal came extremely late, it was fully merited. In running their match odds went into double figures to win.

Moving onto the Asian handicap betting for this contest. As above, Atletico Madrid -0.50 scored late but with merit, winning @ 2.04.

Looking at The Under/Over goal line last of all. My view of this match proved ill founded, mostly because Girona feared Atletico Madrid and was surprisingly happy to play for a 0-0. Atletico’s poor first half finishing meant it stayed 0-0 and turned very much into an unders style match. Under 2.25 won @ 1.97.

Match Summary

In a largely disappointing and dull affair, Atletico snatched a late in from Girona in the Monday evening game. The winner came from Atlético Madrid substitute Álvaro Morata.

The goal was initially ruled out on the pitch, but VAR quickly saw no infringement and the goal stood, giving Simeone’s side a fully deserved win.

The game started off fairly brightly and open, but soon faded into an extremely cautious and timid affair.

Atletico had the best chances in the really dull match and eventually got their goal from a set piece in added time.

Girona gave Atletico too much respect from the start and stood off the opponent.

After a bold beginning from the visitor, they also became reactive and didn’t look upset with a 0-0 which looked probable most of a dire second period.

Considering the game was at Estadi Montilivi,  Girona was extremely disappointing in how little they generated. 0-0 would have been a result which greatly flattered them so although the winner was late and ugly, it did lead to a correct result. fair scores 0-1 and 0-2.

After thrashing Sevilla 6-1 last time out, Girona may have felt more fear as a  result as a cautious match quickly ensued.

Girona initially had more of the ball but failed to work serious threat.

Depay in particular wasted the best chances of an otherwise tight opening period. Griezmann and Hermoso also came close but without question, it should have been at least 0-1 by the break.

Girona came out a little stronger, boosted by a David López audacious effort from his own half which forced Oblak into a good save.

Riquelme then missed their best opening in Girona’s best opportunity.

Just as the game entered 8 minutes of added time, Atletico went ahead from a corner. Super sub Morata got a poacher’s goal, building the ball over the line to secure his side a win.

Atlético are now unbeaten in their last nine La Liga matches, tightening their grip on 3rd spot

Girona will remain midtable but still not feeling safe with  a bunch of teams a couple of wins away from reaching them.
