Looking at the 1×2 betting first. Real Sociedad were the big favourite but a bigger let down In this game, which ended up being something of a coupon buster. Valladolid won @ 8.50 despite being a huge outsider in this market.
Moving onto the Asian handicap market for this contest. The punters were drawn to the host, but Valladolid +1.25 kept it ugly and not only beat the handicap but got the outright victory @ 1.84.
Looking at The Under/Over betting last of all, where the under 2.5 won fairly @ 2.04. The home side went for the win but didn’t hit top gear, while Valladolid defended well, making it a very tight and boring match for the most part.
Match Summary
Thanks to a very committed and organised defence, Real Valladolid registered consecutive 1-0 wins thanks to a smash-and-grab success against Sociedad in San Sebastián.
Real Valladolid rode a couple of difficult spells early in the game but once settled, kept the high flying Basques at bay with relative ease in truth. Valladolid defended extremely well and then bided their time to find a shock winner, handing them a hard fought 0-1 away victory.
Real Sociedad missed a couple of big chances at 0-0 but struggled badly once behind, and the winner came from nothing. A fairer result is 0-0 or 1-1.
After a goalless draw against Real Madrid in the capital last weekend, Sociedad began the contest with pressure now on them to win at Anoeta Stadium.
The host began is assertive fashion and Valladolid were on the back foot for the opening 20 minutes or so.
Despite stern resistance from Valladolid which saw them pick up several bookings, Alguacil’s superior side didn’t find the all-important break through when it mattered.
They were the dominant side and inches away from the game’s opening goal as the break approached. Danger man Alexander Sørloth watched on as his one-on-one strike beat the keeper Masip, but not the left-hand post.
A determined but increasingly frustrated Sociedad again came close to breaking the deadlock in the 57th minute but Masip palmed Sørloth’s header away from danger.
The home side dominated, and it seemed only a matter of time before it became 1-0, but huge credit to Valladolid who dug deep and rode the tough spell.
The manager made changes and they nosed ahead on a rare 73rd minute attack. Larin, who also got the winner against Valencia, made a dramatic impact off the bench by rising above the Sociedad defence to head Luis Pérez’s enticing cross.
To their real credit, Real Valladolid managed the undeserved lead very well and missed a big chance to make it 0-2 late on.
The loss was a massive setback for Real Sociedad, but they deserved little more than a point at best.
