Real Sociedad 2-0 Elche – Betting Review
Betting Analysis
Looking at the 1×2 market first. Sociedad was the big favourite to win @ 1.40 and they gave their backers no scares in a comfortable and merited victory.
Elche came into this testing encounter where every game was necessary to take three points to keep their hopes alive of staying up.
This meant they had to chase when behind which suited the Basques, who controlled the game from the start, especially after going ahead which they did on 48 minutes.
Moving onto the Asian handicap betting for this contest. Sociedad -1.25 @ 1.92 looked fair and got the full win for their backers thanks to a late goal.
It may have come on 90 minutes, but the home team fully deserved this two goal margin of victory.
The host hadn’t come into the game playing well but team news favoured them as Elche were weakened. And to their credit, Sociedad took full advantage and the two goal win was deserved, as illustrated by the xG maps show below. Fair scores are 3-0 and 2-0, in that order.
Looking at The Under/Over goal betting last of all. The line was set at 2.5 and could have gone either way. The Under won @ 1.83, it could have been 3-0 easier than 2-0, but the market was not wrong here.
Match Summary
Real Sociedad put in a much needed strong showing and cruised to a win against rock bottom Elche.
The host didn’t take the lead until early in the second half but they should have scored much sooner.
The second goal came late on but once more, the Basques had wasted opportunities before the killer goal to add shine on the win.
Elche did little to test the keeper but for long shots and one half chance in the second half. Fair score 3-0.
The man that made the headlines in San Sebastian was David Silva. The Canarian was just back from a bad injury and he inspired Real Sociedad to the 2-0 victory over La Liga basement boys Elche.
Imanol Alguacil’s men started brightly and saw Kubo twice fire over the bar within the space of a few minutes after being set up both times by Silva.
Elche fought hard but lacking key parts in the team, lacked cutting edge and confidence. They resorted to speculative long shots from Gerard Gumbau to provide a goal threat. One of them forced Álex Remiro into a fine save.
A dominant Sociedad continued to boss proceedings as the first half progressed, and they saw a VAR review deny a penalty claim just before the break
Sociedad came out all guns blazing in the second half and took the lead in the 48th minute through Kubo. Once more the playmaker Silva set him up and this time VAR favoured the Basques with the lines very tight between onside and offside.
David silva went close from a free kick after Sørloth had hit the post as the Basques sought a deserved second goal.
Elche offered very little in the second half and it was completely merited when Ander Barrenetxea got the 2nd goal just as the 90 minutes was up.
