Sevilla 1-0 Cadiz – Betting Review
Match Summary
A Last gasp penalty saw the desperate host Sevilla grab a victory which made Cadiz’s hard work over 90+ minutes count for nothing
Sevilla looked destined to settle for a point in an all-Andalusian relegation clash. However, Ivan Rakitić rescued his side with a late penalty to lift them out of the La Liga bottom three.
Sevilla dominated the possession and Cadiz immediately showed their hand, setting up behind the ball and being defensive-minded.
Érik Lamela looked to have won his side a penalty after 32 minutes, with Rubén Alcaraz committing a clumsy tackle inside the box. The referee waived play-on and VAR agreed.
Lamela continued to look like the danger man, seeing an attempt on target parried away by Jeremías Ledesma. The Argentine then had a goal ruled out right before the break by VAR. This as Óliver Torres had been offside in the build-up.
Cadiz was unable to change the one-sided nature of the game in the second period as the hosts began it just as strongly. Rakitić looked poised to score but was denied by a fine save low in the bottom left corner.
As frustration grew for Sevilla, tensions began to boil over on the pitch and on the touchlines. The Sevilla boss Sampaoli saw red at the hour mark.
Just as it seemed Ledesma’s saves would earn his side a 0-0 draw, all the away side’s hard work was undone in the 88th minute as Iván Alejo handled in the area.
Alejo was sent off as it denied a clear goalscoring opportunity, and double punishment was served as Rakitić stepped up to slot the penalty into the bottom right corner. The goal was merited, with fair scores considered to be 1-0 and 2-0.
Betting Analysis
Looking at the 1×2 market first where the favourite was Sevilla @ 1.82. As outlined in the preview for this match, Cadiz made it extremely hard and was minutes from drawing the game 0-0. The host won it with a near 90th minute penalty but in truth, it was a deserved win.
Moving onto the Asian handicap market for this contest. Sevilla got a half-win as they gave up what looked a flattering -0.75 @ 1.93 start. In reality, they probably merited a win by two goals as much as by one goal based on the overall play. That said, naturally, the pattern of the match would have changed had they scored earlier. Cadiz +0.75 @ 1.95 backers got a great run for their money but ended up losing half of the stake.
Looking at The Under/Over market last of all which was set at 2.25. The Under was an easy winner @ 1.95. The visitor sat back and frustrated Sevilla and their fans as expected. The match never got the early goal to open up and so Under backers had a very comfortable ride over the 90 minutes.
