The reports connecting Manchester City starlet Bernardo Silva to a summer transfer to Barcelona appear to be becoming stronger by the day.

Despite Pep Guardiola’s repeated statements that the Citizens want to keep the former SL Benfica and AS Monaco midfielder, the rumours continue!

According to recent sources, Silva, whose market worth is €80 million, wishes to join Barcelona this summer.

Despite their financial condition and Manchester City’s unwillingness to do business, Barcelona are increasingly optimistic about signing Silva this summer, according to Helena Condis of COPE.

The same has been expressed to Silva’s agent, Jorge Mendes, who has guaranteed the Portuguese international that his dream move to Barcelona will take place this summer.

There had been talk of a swap deal involving Frenkie de Jong and Silva, but according to Helena Condis, Manchester City aren’t interested in signing the Netherlands international as part of the trade for their star midfielder.

The recent activation of the economic levers is expected to provide Barça with the cash needed to pursue their goals this summer. At the same time, they want to profit from the sale of de Jong, who has been linked with City’s rivals Manchester United.

The Dutchman’s possible exit would also open up room on the payroll for Barcelona to accommodate Silva while maintaining inside La Liga salary limitations.

Barcelona will have to pick and choose their objectives wisely this summer, which promises to be a difficult summer. With Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde thought to be priority objectives, it will be intriguing to see whether they can also add Silva to their lineup.

Pep Guardiola thinks NO

Barcelona president Joan Laporta and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola discussed about Bernardo Silva recently during a press conference to announce a friendly match between the two clubs.

Laporta joked with Pep about bringing the midfielder to the Camp Nou, to which pep responded with – “Bernardo and ten more!”

Pep laughed, before adding, “Today I think he will stay with us, but I have always stated I don’t want players who don’t want to be with us.” But Bernardo is crucial, and I believe he will remain.”

Laporta also discussed Barcelona’s transfer plans briefly, saying just, “Work is being done to produce a competitive club next season.”

Barcelona will take on Manchester City at the Camp Nou on 24th August. The game is being promoted by Juan Carlos Unzue and will raise funds and awareness for ALS research.
