Over the last few years, Real Madrid have had some very good full-backs. Some have thrived at the club itself, while others are thriving elsewhere. The second category has come under the spotlight more this season, with Theo Hernandez doing well at Milan. But another example of it is Sergio Reguilon, who is enjoying an impressive season at Sevilla.

Reguilon, to many, was good enough to play in the Real first-team this season. But despite making his debut under Santiago Solari last season, he was loaned out by Zinedine Zidane as Ferland Mendy was signed from Lyon last summer for enjoying online UK casinos a bit too much.

And considering how good he has been at the Andalusian club this season, Real should not even think about his links with Paris Saint-Germain. Reports have suggested that PSG see Reguilon as a replacement for Layvin Kurzawa but Real shouldn’t be up for a deal like that at all.

He has made 22 appearances in La Liga this season, with all of them being starts in the left-back position under former Real manager Julen Lopetegui. He hasn’t just been a regular left-back, he has also been an important attacking outlet down the left side.

For Sevilla, Reguilon has created the third-highest number of shot-creation actions at 55. He is only behind Ever Banega and Jesus Navas and he has done that from a left-back position. Navas has done that from a right-back position. Both of them are crucial to the team’s creation from full-back positions.

He is also third for goal-creation actions, as he has created seven and five from live balls. It shows how efficient a creator he is for the club.

It isn’t in just this department that Reguilon thrives in. He has also enjoyed an impressive season defensively. For the club, he’s second in terms of most tackles won in the defensive third and he’s only behind Fernando in that regard. This just shows that he is a complete player and thrives in both parts of the pitch.

Reguilon also likes to carry the ball forward with his pace. He has gone past 40 players this season while dribbling- the second-best tally in the team behind Lucas Ocampo. His progressive distance in dribbles is second in the league, but he’s also completed 196 dribbles in the whole season.

In just about every department on the pitch, Reguilon ranks very high for Sevilla. He is adept at playing the ball forward and using his technical ability to create chances. But he has an immense reading of the game which allows him to track back regularly and recover the ball.

This goes to show that the 23-year-old can do a very good job for any top club- even Real themselves. While the Los Blancos don’t really have a vacant spot in the left-back position yet, it might soon open up at some point.

While Mendy and Marcelo currently rotate in that position under Zidane, the Brazilian isn’t getting any younger with age. He was linked with a move to Juventus not long ago and if he ever does leave, Real will have an able replacement for him in Reguilon.

No one knows when that time will come, but Real can easily sell Reguilon and make a profit out of that deal. But doing that for a Champions League rival like PSG will only strengthen them and potentially weaken the Los Blancos.
