FC Barcelona have been dealt a blow by La Liga chiefs in their pursuit of Robert Lewandowski.
The league’s president, Javier Tebas, has continued to insist that the Catalan club is unable to sign new players whilst their financial situation continues to remain in the same perilous state that is well-documented.
Of course, this is not the news that Xavi would have wanted to hear as he would look to try and rebuild his squad in order to challenge for the La Liga title.
In fact, whilst he may have been enjoying himself on the 1bet2u-my.com site now that the 2021/22 campaign has officially finished, he will have been left frustrated with the news he has since been told about.
Tebas recently told Marca: “They (Barcelona) know what they have to do.
“They know perfectly well our economic control rules and their financial situation. The rules are there to avoid major economic problems. I don’t know if they will sell De Jong, Pedri or Pepito Perez.
“They know what they have to do – sell assets and earn more, this is what they have to do.
“Barca has had many accumulated losses in the last tax years, some which could have been avoided and they have to stock the pantry.
“Just as Madrid have stocked up, Barcelona have emptied it. Today they cannot sign him (Lewandowski).”
Of course, Lewandowski would be a major coup this summer, and it is likely that he will be in strong demand, with a number of big clubs certainly keen on acquiring the FC Bayern forward after he announced his decision to end his time there.
It is not the only blow that FC Barcelona face, though, as they are already unable to register two players who are set to join on free transfers – Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen.
The duo – who will sign from AC Milan and Chelsea respectively – will have likely filled holes in key positions on the field for the Nou Camp outfit, however it seems Xavi will be unable to use them at this moment.
The Catalans will need to shift current players from the books and ease the pressures that they have, although this is something that they are likely going to find a lot easier said than done.
Additionally, if they were after other players on top of Lewandowski, then even more work will need to be done.
Therefore, what we do know is that it is going to be an incredibly busy summer at the Nou Camp.
