According to ESPN, Manchester United has been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.
Erik ten Hag’s side have been linked with a move for Alvaro Morata after the Red Devils abandoned their pursuit of Bologna forward Marko Arnautovic and RB Leipzig won the race to sign Slovenian starlet Benjamin Sesko.
Manchester United have yet to replace Edinson Cavani, who left the club on a free transfer at the end of June, and Anthony Martial’s injury early in the season highlighted the former Ajax manager’s lack of depth.
Mason Greenwood is still unavailable for selection, and wantaway talisman Cristiano Ronaldo is gradually gaining match fitness after missing the club’s pre-season tour.
According to ESPN, Ten Hag is looking to add a physical back-up striker to his squad, and the Reds have been offered former Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata.
The 29-year-old has a year left on his Atletico Madrid contract and has spent the previous two seasons on loan at Juventus.
While the Reds signed the Belgian from Everton, Los Blancos paid Chelsea £60 million to bring Morata to Stamford Bridge.
Morata, like many Chelsea number nines, struggled to live up to his high price tag in west London and spent only 18 months with the Blues before returning to his homeland on loan to Atletico Madrid.
Before joining Diego Simeone’s side on a permanent basis, the 56-time Spain international scored 24 goals in 72 appearances for the Blues.
Morata scored 11 Premier League goals in his only full season in England, and he previously played alongside United’s number seven at Real Madrid and Juventus.
In a pre-season friendly against his former club Juventus on Sunday, Atletico Madrid’s number 19 scored a hat-trick.
Morata played in Atletico Madrid’s pre-season match against Manchester United at the end of last month, and he was the recipient of Fred’s rash stamp, which resulted in the Brazilian being sent off.
